Kofi Baker’s Cream Experience

Arcada Theatre St. Charles, IL Saturday, June 2nd | 8 PM

As the son of legendary drumming icon Ginger Baker, Kofi Baker has a name that’s synonymous with drumming excellence. And Kofi lives up to his name; with his outstanding skills, drive, and dedication he continues the great Baker legacy. Kofi’s first live performance was with his father on the UK television show “The Old Grey Whistle Test” – at just six years of age he proved he had inherited more than just his fathers name. In the early 80′s, Kofi and his father played drum duets throughout Europe, amazing audiences with complex African polyrhythms. Later, Kofi toured with John Ethridge (Soft Machine), and gigged in London with Steve Waller (Manfred Mann), and with Randy California (Spirit). He also toured Europe with Steve Marriot’s Humble Pie. During the 1990′s Kofi toured with Jack Bruce in Budapest; signed with Scotty Brothers Records when he recorded the album Lost City; recorded Abstract Logic with Jonas Hellborg and Shawn Lane; and toured extensively - including more drum duets with Ginger Baker

Robert Cray Band, Guests: NuBlu Band featuring Carlise Guy

Arcada Theatre St. Charles IL   Friday, June 1st | 8 PM

  http://www.oshows.com

Cray started playing guitar in his early teens. At Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia, his love of blues and soul music flourished as he started collecting records. Originally, he wanted to become an architect, but around the same time that he began to study architectural design, he formed the band Steakface, described as “the best band from Lakewood you never heard of”.[2] Cray’s guitar and vocals contributed greatly to Steakface’s set list of songs by Jimi Hendrix, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Fleetwood Mac, The Grease Band, Blodwyn Pig, Jethro Tull, Spiritand The Faces.
By the age of twenty, Cray had seen his heroes Albert Collins, Freddie King and Muddy Waters in concert and decided to form his own band; they began playing college towns on the West Coast. In the late 1970s he lived in Eugene, Oregon, where he formed the Robert Cray Band and collaborated with Curtis Salgado in the Cray-Hawks. In the 1978 film, National Lampoon’s Animal House, Cray was the uncredited bassist in the house party band Otis Day and the Knights. After several years of regional success, Cray was signed to Mercury Records in 1982. His third album release, Strong Persuader, produced by Dennis Walker, received a Grammy Award, while the crossover single ”Smokin’ Gun” gave him wider appeal and name recognition.
By now, Cray was an opening act for such major stars as Eric Clapton (who remains a friend to this day), and sold out larger venues as a solo artist. Cray has generally played Fender guitars (Telecasters and Stratocasters) and there are two signature Robert Cray Stratocasters models available from Fender. The Robert Cray Custom Shop Stratocaster is made in the United States in the Fender custom shop and is identical to the guitars that Cray currently plays, while the Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster is a less-expensive model made in Fender’s Ensenada, Mexico plant.
Cray had the opportunity to play alongside John Lee Hooker on his album Boom Boom, playing the guitar solo in the song “Same Old Blues Again”. He is also featured on the Hooker album, The Healer; he plays a guitar solo on the song “Baby Lee”. The entire Robert Cray Band backs Hooker on the title track of Hooker’s 1992 album “Mr. Lucky”, where Cray plays lead guitar, sings, and banters with Hooker throughout the song.
Cray was invited to play at the “Guitar Legends” concerts in Seville, Spain at the 1992 Expo, where he played a signature track, “Phone Booth”. Albert Collins was also on the bill on this blues night of the “Legends” gigs.
Cray continues to record and tour. He appeared at the Crossroads Guitar Festival, and supported Eric Clapton on his 2006-2007 world tour. In Fargo, North Dakota, he joined Clapton on backup guitar for the Cream song “Crossroads“. In 2011, Cray was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame.

AN EVENING WITH TOMMY ROE

3/25/2012 – Hollywood, CA - International '60s music legend and pop pioneer
Tommy Roe is back and better than ever with his first new CD release in many
years! In support of his new album Tommy will also be performing several select
dates in the US and Canada. A bona fide international star, Tommy Roe wrote and
recorded 6 "Top 10" hits between 1962-69, more than any other solo
American artist. To his credits he has 11 US Top 40 hits, 6 Top 10s, 4
Certified Gold singles, and 2 #1 Hits. He is a member of the Hit Parade Hall of
Fame, The Georgia Music Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. On
September 2, 2012 Tommy Roe will be inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Music
Association (IRRMA) Hall of Fame. http://iowarocknroll.com/news.php?id=201
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Tommy began writing songs at the age of fourteen,
and his first recording effort yielded the international #1 hit..SHEILA. In
1963, Tommy Roe headlined the now famous UK tour, in which a rising band called
The Beatles were a featured act on his tour.
“I will most likely call the new CD 'Devils Soul Pile', after a song I have
written and included in the line up,” explains Tommy. “The song is a departure
from my normal and expected style, and one that tells the story of
dysfunctional families, and the effect it has on our youth and our neighborhoods.
Lyrically, this song is a bit serious, and was inspired by the everyday news of
violence in our neighborhoods and cities. But a song that ends in hope.” Other
new songs include “LA I Belong To You”, “It's For You I'm Me” and “Water
Underneath My Burning Bridge” as well as a re-recorded version of “Kick Me
Charlie” from Tommy's 1965's 'Sweet Pea' album.
“Get Ready to party...Tommy Roe sounds better than ever!” LARRY KLEIN-Executive
Producer: Dick Clark Productions

AN EVENING WITH TOMMY ROE is a new show featuring all his hits, plus less
familiar tunes, and new material as well. The show features full band,
unplugged and solo segments. The band is led by veteran guitarist/music
director Rick Levy, who plays Epiphone guitars exclusively on tour with Tommy Roe.
“I am really excited about my new show,” says Tommy. “I will be featuring some
of the new songs I have written, along with some obscure material I have
recorded through the years, and get many requests to do. Of course I will
highlight the hits, like 'Sheila', 'Everybody', 'Hooray For Hazel', 'Sweet
Pea', 'Jam Up and Jelly Tight' and 'Dizzy', along with some of my favorite
covers. I will also do a Q&A session in the middle of the show while the
stage is being set for my acoustic set with band leader and lead guitarist Rick
Levy. This is a new addition to our show, and something I really enjoy. It
gives me a chance to get up close and intimate with our audience, kind of like
I do at home with family and friends.”

Tommy Roe will be performing on these dates:
April 7-8 – Riverside Casino – Riverside, IA
April 14 – Seneca Niagara Casino – Niagara Falls
May 25 – Century Casino – Edmonton, AB, Canada
June 16 – Fountain of Life Fair – Gray, TN
June 17 (tentative) Ponte Vedra, Fl.
June 18 – The Villages – FL
August 31 – DiamondJo Casino – Dubuque, IA
September 1 – Winnavegas Casino – Sloan, IA
September 2 – Hall of Fame Induction – Arnolds Park, IA

National Wanna Play Music Week!

The first week of May is when we celebrate National Wanna Play Music Week!

And if you've always wished you could play a musical instrument but for whatever reason haven't done it yet -- this is your chance!

Or maybe you used to play, but life got moving too fast and you just stopped doing it. Well, it's never too late to get back into music and enjoy its many benefits.

First of all, months before the actual week hits, NAMM encourages anyone who has always wanted to play an instrument but hasn't tried yet to take the “Pledge to Play.” This Facebook promotion will encourage potential musicians to sign up, be counted and take that next step toward the many proven benefits of playing music. When you're done, please post the link to the pledge on your facebook page and encourage your friends to get started too!

Beginning on May 7, 2012, here are a few of the ways you can participate in the fun of National Wanna Play Music Week.

Music Monday, May 7 - Register to participate in Music Monday, to demonstrate the importance of music education programs throughout North America and your commitment to experiencing the proven benefits that music making can bring to your life. The event kicks off National Wanna Play Music Week, and encourages everyone across North America to play music with others at the same time, or pick up an instrument of your choice and jam at any time on that day.

Tuesday, May 8
—
Tuesday, NAMM will pay homage to the new and innovative music making technology that is being used today, conduct media outreach efforts and feature specific products that could be help people break through their misperceptions about not being musical. Try out a new music-making app or video game and see how fun it is when music making melds with the tech world!

Wednesday, May 9 — You’d be surprised by how many celebrities (including actors, authors, sports figures and politicians) also play instruments! NAMM will be issuing a public poll to see who people’s favorite high-profile “Unexpected Musician” is and will promote the outcome on www.wannaplaymusic.com while encouraging people to try out the Music Store locator and Music Lesson locator tools on the site to find music stores and lessons near them.

Thursday, May 10 — Social media has proven to be an effective marketing and promotional tool and this year, NAMM is continuing to host its “Pledge to Play” initiative on Facebook as a way for people to commit to playing an instrument. Take the "Pledge to Play" yourself and encourage your Facebook friends to take the pledge by posting your support of this effort along with this link to the “Pledge to Play”: http://www.facebook.com/#!/wannaplaybynamm?sk=app_290745734296638.

Friday, May 11-13 — This entire weekend is dedicated to the music retail store and will highlight the benefits of people visiting their local music store for all of their musical needs.

We expect an exciting week of media coverage, special events, promotions and reminders of why playing music is a great thing to do regardless of age or skill level. And more importantly, we will give non-players (who have all kinds of stories and excuses about why they don’t play) new reasons to pick up an instrument and make 2012 the year when they actually did it. And when you have begun playing, come back to this site and click on the "Share Your Story" tab so you can inspire more people to take that next step to playing an instrument.

So mark your calendar and this May you can join the millions of people who are playing music. It doesn't matter if you're great at it and it's a pastime that will give back to you for the rest of your life!

THE TEMPTATIONS BRING THEIR MOTOWN

HITS AND TOY DRIVE TO ARCADA THEATRE

The Arcada Offers Ticket Deals for Toy Drive

Otis Williams, bottom right, is the last living of the original Temptations. The group performs Thursday, November 15 at Arcada Theatre in St. Charles.
ST. CHARLES - Dec. 1, 2011 - Legends of Motown and Rock N Roll Hall of Famers "The Temptations" come to St. Charles Thursday, December 15. "With hits "My Girl," "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," "Get Ready," "Ain't To Proud To Beg," and a slew of other classics, the show is going to be 'off the charts' with excitement...really, really fun," said Ron Onesti.

He hopes their show will bring loads of toys to his historic Arcada Theatre in downtown St. Charles.

Onesti is sponsoring half-price tickets in exchange for new toys donated to Salvation Army's Toys for Kids collection. There is no limit to the amount of half-off tickets purchased by a customer, as long as one new toy is provided for each ticket. Tickets start at $29 and every great seat in the theatre is eligible for the discount.

With a couple of Temptations acts out there, this one is being touted as the "Real Deal." The last living original member, Otis Williams, leads the group and performs the hits and their signature dance steps with which the original group became famous.

"This is going to be a great family night with music that is timeless. These songs have memories attached for anyone who listens. Really, who doesn't love Motown?" Couple it with an awesome charitable cause...ya can't lose!."

Those who wish to bring toys for the discount can buy tickets online with the promo code TEMPSTOYS. Those tickets will be scanned at the door, and toys will be accepted at that time.

More information is available at Onesti Entertainment's website, www.oshows.com. Tickets can be purchased online at the site, or by calling a ticketing representative at 888-695-0888.

The 900-seat Arcada Theatre is located at 105 E. Main Street in St. Charles. It offers free on-street parking, a premium bar and is a registered landmark where iconic stars including Mickey Rooney, Jerry Lewis and Martin Short have performed in Onesti Entertainment productions.
